私が初めて三社祭を目の当たりにしたのは、2017年頃。まだ海外で働いていた時期でした。

一時帰国中のある日、友人と「浅草でお好み焼きでも食べよう」という、本当に軽い気持ちで駅を降りたのです。そこには、人生観を覆すような光景が待っていました。

「え、何これ……？」

駅を出た瞬間に響く担ぎ手の怒号、ぶつかり合う肩、激しく上下に揺れる神輿。東京のど真ん中で、こんなに野性的で熱い世界があるのかと、言葉を失いました。

あの日、偶然目にした「日曜日の宮入り」の熱狂。それがなければ、今こうして「お祭り男チャンネル」で全国を駆け回る私は存在していなかったかもしれません。

三社祭は、単なる観光イベントはありません。単なるお祭りでは表現しきれません。

翌日から本番ですが、浅草の人にはそんなの関係ないのかもしれません。
1年分の想い、そして、今年にかける想い。

📸 土曜日：全神輿が浅草寺へ集結する「定点撮影の極意」

土曜日は、各町内の神輿が一斉に浅草寺へ向かうメインイベントの一つ。私は毎年、「宝蔵門」を定点ポイントに決めています。

👑 日曜日：すべてが最高潮に達する「宮入り」

最終日の日曜日。この日が、三社祭のすべてを締めくくる一日です。

早朝早くに浅草寺から出た「一之宮・二之宮・三之宮」の三基の本社神輿。
それぞれが別のルートで街を浄め、町内が連結して、3基のお神輿が浅草中を練り歩きます。
そして、いよいよクライマックス。
夜7〜8時頃、再び浅草寺へと戻ってきます。

これこそが、伝説の「宮入り」。

ライトアップされた浅草寺。その背後にそびえるスカイツリー。
何百人もの担ぎ手の咆哮とともに、巨大な神輿が戻ってくる光景――。

「今年も、三社祭が終わるんだな」。
祭りの終わりを告げる切なさと、やり遂げた満足感が混ざり合う、最高に贅沢な時間です。

In mid-May, the streets of Asakusa, still holding a hint of spring, are instantly transformed during these three days into a whirlwind of summer frenzy and roaring cheers. In 2025, we once again experienced moments that shook our very souls.

When you feel the heat of Sanja Matsuri, your hands naturally grip the camera tighter, and a sensation of “Finally, the festival season has begun!” surges through your entire body.

⚡ The Day a Casual Visit to Asakusa Changed My Life

The first time I witnessed Sanja Matsuri was around 2017. At the time, I was still working overseas.

During a temporary return to Japan, I stepped off the train with a friend, thinking lightheartedly, “Let’s go grab some Okonomiyaki in Asakusa.” What waited for me there was a sight that completely altered my perspective on life.

“Wait… What is this!?”

The moment I left the station, I heard the roars of the carriers, saw shoulders crashing into each other, and watched the portable shrines (Mikoshi) swaying violently up and down. I was speechless that such a wild, primal world existed right in the heart of Tokyo.

If it hadn’t been for the frenzy of the “Sunday Miya-iri” that I happened to see that day, I might not be traveling across Japan today for the “Festival Freak Japan” channel.

😲 Adult Realization: The True Power of Sanja Matsuri

Sanja Matsuri is more than just a tourist event. It cannot be described simply as a “festival.”
The sound, the people, the heat, and the history—everything is on an entirely different scale.

“This level of passion continues every year in the middle of Tokyo as if it were the most natural thing in the world.”

When I realized that fact, I remember getting goosebumps all over. Encountering Sanja Matsuri as an adult is completely different from the festivals I saw as a child—it is a “clash of souls.”

🏨 Key Strategy: Lodging and “the b asakusa” Report

Compared to other major festivals, Asakusa has a relatively good number of hotels, but booking early is absolutely essential.

In 2025, I used “the b asakusa” as my base. It was a strategic choice to maximize filming efficiency.

Thanks to this location, I never missed a split-second photo opportunity and was able to endure long hours of filming. “Stay at the heart of the festival.” This is the golden rule of strategy.

🌙 Friday Night Shock: The Festival Had Already Begun

There was a time when I thought, “The Mikoshi probably won’t move on Friday.” I was wrong. Sanja Matsuri starts on Friday night.

The Mikoshi move through the shopping arcades, cutting through the twilight. It’s a quiet but unmistakable heat. Although the main events start the next day, that doesn’t seem to matter to the people of Asakusa. One year’s worth of anticipation is poured into this single weekend.

In 2026, I plan to dive even deeper into the drama hidden on “Friday Night.” The more years you attend, the more details begin to reveal themselves. I honestly want to scold my past self for living in Tokyo and not attending Sanja Matsuri every single year!

📸 Saturday: Strategy for Fixed-Point Filming at Senso-ji

Saturday is one of the main events where the Mikoshi from each neighborhood head toward Senso-ji Temple all at once. Every year, I choose the “Hozomon Gate” as my fixed-point filming spot.

👑 Sunday: The Climax — “Miya-iri” (The Grand Return)

The final day, Sunday. This is the day that brings everything together.

Early in the morning, the three “Honsha Mikoshi” (Ichi-no-miya, Ni-no-miya, San-no-miya) leave Senso-ji. Each takes a different route to purify the town, and as the neighborhoods connect, the shrines parade all through Asakusa. Then comes the climax. Between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM, they return to Senso-ji Temple.

This is the legendary “Miya-iri.”

The illuminated Senso-ji Temple. The Tokyo Skytree towering in the background. The sight of the massive Mikoshi returning amidst the roars of hundreds of carriers—it is breathtaking.

“Another Sanja Matsuri has come to an end.” It is a truly luxurious moment, a mix of the sadness of the festival’s end and the profound satisfaction of having lived through it.

✅ Towards 2026: See You Again in Asakusa

In 2026, I will head to Sanja Matsuri once again. I hope to go one step deeper into the heart of the festival than I did this year.
