二度と戻れない初めての長岡花火
– My One and Only First Nagaoka Fireworks – 2025 –

これまで大曲の花火大会ですとか、土浦の花火大会というのは見たことがあったんですけれども、私は人生で今まで一度も新潟県の長岡の花火大会を見たことはありませんでした。
ただ、やっぱりお祭り動画を上げ始めて、また、花火を撮影し始めてから、必ずと言っていいほどコメント欄に上がってくるのがこの長岡のフェニックスでした。
いつか行きたい、いつか行きたいなぁと言い続けて2、3年経ってしまい、今年こそはと思いチケットを取り、行くことができました。

I’ve seen plenty of fireworks festivals before—like the Omagari Fireworks Festival and the Tsuchiura Fireworks—but surprisingly, I had never seen the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival in Niigata until this year.
Ever since I started posting festival videos and filming fireworks, one name kept popping up again and again in the comments: Nagaoka’s Phoenix.
“I really want to go someday.”
“I have to see it someday.”
I kept saying that for two or three years… and finally, this year, I made it happen and got my ticket.

ただ、新潟県の長岡といっても、そんなに簡単にアクセスできる場所に私が住んでいるわけではなく、もうご存知の方がいれば、私は普段東北の秋田というところに住んでいます。
そのため、長岡に行くためには飛行機、または電車、あとは車という選択肢があるんですけれども、やはり機材がとんでもない重さなので、花火のときは特にいろんなものを持っていかないといけなくて大変だということで、今回は車で行くという決断をしました。私が住んでいるところから長岡までは、約車で6時間ちょっとくらいかかるんですね。結構遠いんです。
新潟のさらに下になるので、かなり遠い。ただ、どうしてもやっぱり見に行きたかったので、今回は車で行きました。
前の日に一泊して、花火の当日もまた一泊して帰ってくるというプランだったんですけれども、花火の当日は長岡ではホテルは取ることができませんでした。
なので、前日に仕事終わりに秋田を出発して、山形県の酒田で吉野家かな、そこでご飯を食べて、そのまま南下していく形でした。
着いたのはかなり夜遅く、夜中の1時くらいにホテルに到着しました。
そのホテルは長岡の会場から車でだいたい20〜30分くらいのところだったので、そこでまずはゆっくり前日休んで、そして当日を迎えるという形になりました。

That said, Nagaoka isn’t exactly easy to get to from where I live. For those who may not know, I’m based in Akita, in the Tohoku region.
To get to Nagaoka, I could choose between flying, taking the train, or driving—but because fireworks filming requires an insane amount of heavy equipment, I decided to drive this time.

From Akita to Nagaoka, it’s about a little over six hours by car. It’s really far—deep down in Niigata Prefecture.
Still, I wanted to see it so badly that I didn’t hesitate.

Originally, the plan was to stay one night before the fireworks and another on the day of the event. But of course, hotels in Nagaoka were completely sold out for the night of the festival.
So instead, I left Akita after work the day before, stopped by a Yoshinoya in Sakata, Yamagata, grabbed dinner, and kept driving south.

I finally arrived at my hotel at around 1 a.m.
The hotel was about 20–30 minutes by car from the fireworks venue, so I got some rest there and prepared myself for the big day.

花火当日 – the day –

花火当日8/2、午前中は素材撮りや長岡周辺でいろいろ撮影をしてから現地に向かいました。今回は私、駐車場を予約していなかったので、車をどこかに停めないといけなかったんですけれども、やっぱり駐車場探しがすごく大変でした。運よく長岡駅の周辺、駅から徒歩5分くらいのところに時間貸しの駐車場があって、当然花火料金になっていたんですけれども、予約せずに停められました。
普通に事前に公式から駐車場予約をすると1万円近く取られていたので、私の場合はこの事前に自力で探す戦法がスケジュール的には合っていたかなと思います。
昼の12時から夜10時くらいまで停めて、大体7,000円から8,000円くらいの間だったと記憶しています。
結果的に予約なしでも、12時くらいに現地に行けばまだ駐車場が空いていたなと思います。

On the day of the fireworks, I spent the morning doing location shots and filming around Nagaoka before heading to the venue.
I hadn’t reserved a parking spot in advance, so I had to hunt for one—and as expected, it was tough.
Luckily, I found a coin parking lot just five minutes on foot from Nagaoka Station.
Of course, it was special fireworks pricing, but instead of the usual ¥10,000 reservation fee, I managed to park without any reservation for about ¥7,000–¥8,000, from noon until around 10 p.m.
If you’re planning to go next year, here’s a tip:
If you arrive by around 12–2 p.m., you still have a good chance of finding parking within a 20-minute walk of the venue.

もし来年行かれる方がいれば、昼の2時くらいまでなら駅前であればだいたい会場まで徒歩20分くらいのエリアで空いていると思うので、参考にしてもらえればと思います。
無事に駐車場を確保したので、お腹も空いていたこともあり、いわゆる撮影飯として毎回その土地のご飯を食べるんです。
今回は長岡駅が非常に近かったので、初めての長岡駅でご飯を食べようと思って行ってみました。
Once parking was secured, I went out for my usual “filming meal”—I always try to eat something local. Since I was right next to Nagaoka Station, I tried to grab lunch there for the first time.
But by around 12:50 p.m., the entire station was already packed with people. Every restaurant had lines stretching out the door—1–2 hour waits everywhere.

ところが、もう1時ちょっと前くらいだったんですけれど、駅にはとんでもない人がいて、駅ビル内のレストランコーナーはどのお店も行列で、1〜2時間待たないと食べられないような状態でした。花火当日は駅前も人でごった返していましたね。

さすがに1〜2時間は待てないので、駅前の近くにあった居酒屋さんでランチをとることにしました。その後、水分補給用のポカリや軽食などを近くのスーパーマーケットで買い込んで車に戻りました。車の中では機材の最終チェックをしたり、夜まで撮影で大変なので軽く昼寝をしたりして時間を潰していました。だいたい3時くらいになるといよいよ出発です。

There was no way I was waiting that long, so I grabbed lunch at a nearby izakaya instead.
After that, I stocked up on drinks like Pocari Sweat and some snacks at a nearby supermarket and headed back to my car.

Inside the car, I did my final equipment checks and took a quick nap to save energy for the long night ahead.
Around 3 p.m., it was finally time to move.

普段花火を見に行く時はそんなに早く行かないものですが、私はこの撮影を始めてからは2〜3時間前に行ってセッティングするのが当たり前になりました。今回はカメラ3台体制で、2台は動画用（ライブ配信用）、もう1台はサムネイル用の写真撮影用として準備しました。

Normally, people head to fireworks pretty casually, but ever since I started filming, it’s become standard for me to arrive 2–3 hours early to set everything up.

This time, I ran a three-camera setup:

• Two cameras for video (live shooting)

• One camera for still photos and thumbnails

車から会場までは20〜25分ほど歩き、3時半頃に出て4時くらいに現地到着、そこから1時間ほどセッティングして5時頃には万全の体制になっていました。

From the parking lot, it took about 20–25 minutes to walk to the venue.
I left around 3:30 p.m., arrived by 4:00 p.m., and after about an hour of setup, everything was ready by 5 p.m.

今回の機材は3台体制で、カメラのほかに三脚を3本、そして人が多く通常の通信が難しいので衛星インターネット機材や大型バッテリーも持ち込みました。もうとんでもない量の荷物でしたね。その様子も写真があるので後でお見せできればと思います。そんな感じで現地に到着し、花火を待つ段階まで進みました。今回はご縁があってカメラマン席を取ることができました。もちろんいい金額で、例えば大曲りや土浦も非常に高かったんですけれども、長岡もやはりチケットはかなり高かったです。おそらく無料の席もどこかにはあったと思いますが、せっかく6時間もかけて行ったので、今回は思い切ってカメラマン席を取りました。

Aside from the cameras and three tripods, I also brought:

• Satellite internet equipment (because normal networks are useless in crowds)

• Large battery packs

The amount of gear was absolutely ridiculous. I even took photos of the setup—I’ll share them later.

This year, I was lucky enough to get a press photographer’s seat.
Of course, it wasn’t cheap—just like Omagari and Tsuchiura, Nagaoka tickets are expensive too. There might be some free seating somewhere, but after driving six hours, I went all in.

その会場がどこだったかというと、ウオクロ長岡店、東側のA会場側で、大手大橋という橋のふもとがちょうどカメラマン席になっていました。そこから撮影をして、いよいよ花火大会が進んでいくわけです。通常のプログラムも非常に見応えがあったんですが、中盤くらいになると皆さんお待ちかねの復興祈願フェニックスが打ち上がります。私にとっては初めての長岡、そして初めてのフェニックスだったので、どこから打ち上がるのか全くわからない状態で撮影していました。

My spot was near the eastern A-zone by the Ote Bridge, close to Uoguro Nagaoka. That’s where the real show began.
The entire program was impressive, but then came the moment everyone waits for—the Phoenix fireworks.
It was my first time in Nagaoka. My first time seeing Phoenix.
And honestly… I had no idea where it was going to launch from.

実際に私がYouTubeに上げた動画を見ていただくとわかるんですけど、最初は全く違う方向にカメラが向いていて、開始と同時に慌ててパンした、そんな映像になっています。本当に横幅が広すぎて、確か2キロくらいに渡って打ち上がっているんですよね。ものすごいワイド感で、まさに圧巻でした。毎回平原綾香さんの「Jupiter」に合わせて「Every day…」と始まるんですが、これを映像で見るのもいいんですけれど、やはり現地で見ると本当に圧巻で、カメラには収まりきらないスケール感でした。

If you’ve seen my YouTube video, you’ll notice that at the start, my camera is pointing in the completely wrong direction—and then suddenly pans in a panic. That’s because the fireworks stretch across nearly two kilometers. The scale is just unbelievable.
Every year, Phoenix launches to Ayaka Hirahara’s “Jupiter”, starting with the line “Every day…”.
Watching it on video is powerful—but seeing it live is on another level entirely.

今回のプログラムでは、曲が始まる前に一発真っ白な花火が静寂の中で一斉に打ち上がって、夜空を埋め尽くすんです。その感動は一生忘れられない、本当に素晴らしい花火でした。撮影しているときは本当にずっと空を見上げている状態で、当然撮影しなきゃと思ってカメラを見ているんですけれども、それを超えるほど素晴らしい花火で、これはもう一度長岡で見たいなと心から思いました。また来年もこの場所に戻ってきたいと思わせてくれる花火大会でした。

Before the music even starts this year, a single massive white burst shoots into the sky in total silence—then the entire night sky lights up at once.
It was one of the most emotional moments I’ve ever experienced. I will never forget it.

Even while filming, when I should be focused on the camera, I found myself constantly staring at the sky in pure awe.
It was so overwhelming that I immediately thought, “I have to come back here again.”

その後も素晴らしいプログラムが続いて、大満足の長岡の花火大会でした。ただ、撮影には片付けがつきもので、皆さんが会場を後にした後にカメラを片付け、三脚をたたんでキャリーカートに載せて一人で帰る…これがちょっと寂しい瞬間でもあります。仲間が欲しいなと思いながらも、毎回こうして重たい機材を運んでいます。そして駐車場まで戻っても終わりではなく、ここから皆さんに見ていただくための編集作業が始まります。ドローン映像や花火の映像、音声をいじったりテロップを入れたりして、パソコンで4Kや8Kの動画を書き出し、YouTubeにアップロードします。これがまた時間がかかるので、私はホテルに戻ってからではなく車の中で編集してしまいます。

実はその日は長岡周辺や新潟でホテルが高すぎて取れなかったので、山形県鶴岡のアパホテルまで4時間運転して戻り、夜中の2時半か3時くらいにようやく到着して、ぐったりして倒れ込むように休みました。翌日は秋田で竿燈まつりの撮影があり、スケジュールはパンパンでした。そんなふうに、このブログ記事を書いている11月に振り返ると、あの夏の思い出がよみがえってきて本当にうれしいです。

As amazing as the fireworks were, packing up afterward is always a lonely moment.
After everyone leaves, I fold the tripods, load everything onto my cart, and head back alone—carrying all that gear. Every time, I find myself wishing I had a crew.

And even after reaching the parking lot, the work isn’t done.
That’s when editing begins—adjusting the drone footage, fireworks footage, sound, adding subtitles, exporting in 4K or 8K, and uploading to YouTube.

Because the hotels in Nagaoka were insanely overpriced, I couldn’t stay there.
So I drove four more hours to an APA Hotel in Tsuruoka, Yamagata, arriving around 2:30–3:00 a.m., completely exhausted and collapsing into bed.

The very next day, I had to film the Kanto Festival back in Akita, so my schedule was absolutely packed.

Looking back now in November while writing this, all those intense summer memories come flooding back—and it makes me truly happy.
